I have had a Twitter account since September 2012. In the four and a half years since I joined, I have tweeted a sad 332 times. I was never able to find a groove with the site, but I think I may have finally found my wings.
A big part of my confusion about Twitter was that I kept trying to use it like I use Facebook. I, personally, love Facebook and use it regularly. I use it for sharing articles, photos, memories and general antics. I never really saw Twitter as somewhere to do the same, but I do now.
In the last few weeks, I’ve been reading more of my Twitter feed and searching out hashtags to join conversations. With that, I’ve found certain hashtag discussions that bring me a lot of inspiration and enjoyment. I’ve been able to connect with other writers and people in general.
My new favourite hashtags are:
These three are bringing me deeper and deeper into the world of Twitter.
One thing that has made this newfound appreciation for Twitter stand out for me is that I actually write “Tweet” down as an action item for my day. I am good at making and following lists, so it seemed like a no-brainer to simply add it as a daily action item. The #authorconfessions task for this month has been incredibly helpful, too. It basically hands me something to Tweet about.
I hope there is some challenge that can keep me inspired next month, too.
If you want to follow me on Twitter — I’m here: @SeanKerr84. I’d love it. And Tweet at me, and I’ll Tweet back, and we’ll be Tweeting all over the place.
