Just the other day, I finally wrote a whole short story. I started this new year with the goal of working on a short story per week. I actually started a week before the new year.
So far, I have attempted a few of these. They are:
- 40 Hours
- Learning to Believe
- Hold Hands and Die
- Do You Wanna Dance?
The goal is to attempt to write a short story per week. Sometimes, the idea may not gel or may not be something I am inspired enough to finish in that week. The important thing is that I work at it throughout the week to see what I can come up with.
I really love the ideas behind each of these stories that I’ve started, but the first three just weren’t coming together for me.
I wrote a draft of “Do You Wanna Dance?” from start to finish. Admittedly, I have a lot of work to do with that story to get it polished and perhaps ready for submission to a literary magazine, but the groundwork is there. I’m excited that I will have 52 new short story options by the end of 2017 to consider developing and prepping for possible publication.
Right now, I’m taking a little bit of a break from “Do You Wanna Dance?” to let it sit with me. In a few weeks, I’ll dust it off and prepare a second draft. I may even get to bring it as a story to be critiqued at one of the Pontiac & Ottawa Valley Writers’ Circle (POVWC) meetings.
